Duration: 6 months
The minimum requirements set forth before enrolling for this course are as follows:
Ladies Garment Hand Stitching Sample Making describes the production of hand stitching samples consisting of decorative stitches and finishing stitches. These stitches are fully completed by hand using sharp and fine hand needles and suitable thread in accordance with hand stitch sample-making specifications.
Ladies Garment Component Making describes the competency in making garments by component at the initial stage. In this initial stage, variation parts of garment components such as different types of collars, cuffs, necklines, pockets, sleeves and waistbands, etc are produced by each important category.
Ladies Garment Casual Wear Making describes the competency of designing and producing the desired outfit which includes adjustment on sizing and shape of the manipulated pattern, pattern drafting, fabric cutting, assembling garment parts, fitting and finishing until a complete casual attire is produced such as casual blouse, skirt and pants.
Ladies Garment Traditional Wear Making describes the competency of designing and producing the desired outfit which includes adjustment on sizing and shape of the manipulated pattern, pattern drafting, fabric cutting, assembling garment parts, fitting and finishing until a complete traditional attire such as Kurung Pesak, Cheongsam, Sari blouse is produced.
Ladies Garment Contemporary Wear Making describes the competency of designing and producing the desired outfit which includes adjustment on sizing and shape of the manipulated pattern, pattern drafting, fabric cutting, assembling garment parts, fitting and finishing until a complete contemporary attire such as modern Kebaya, modern Kurung and modern Jubah is produced.
Typically, ladies garment makers work in a variety of workspace ranging from small workshops to large factory buildings. This condition is very much depending on the employer’s organisation size or business scale. Usually, ladies garment maker personnel must work according to project or production deadlines by meeting a daily, weekly or monthly production quota set forth by superiors. Most of the time, in order to meet the project and production deadlines, they may have to work extra hours such as overtime and shift work schedules.
Furthermore, they may also work independently or as part of the production team with a specific task and production operations based on the work orders from their superiors. Ladies garment makers may run their own businesses, work in small shops or work in the custom-tailoring section of large department stores. Some may work out of their home premises. Retail clothing stores, speciality stores, bridal shops and dry cleaners may also employ ladies garment makers to conduct garment alterations for their clients.

Occupational Competencies The Ladies Garment Technical Operation Level 3 personnel is competent in performing the following core competencies:
Ladies garment technicians may work as seamstresses or pattern makers for design companies, manufacturers and fashion boutiques that still doing their work processes. These may include designing, producing patterns, sewing and cutting manually or using technology in the process. Some ladies’ garment technician operates their own businesses by creating clothing for clients. In addition, ladies’ garment technicians may not require a high level of formal education, but professionally, they must have creativity and skill to make garments that women want to wear. They also need to be able to use digital applications (CAD/CAM) for pattern-making operations, illustration and sewing.
Ladies garment technician measure customers to get measurements for garments. Once the ladies’ garment technician has the customer’s measurements, the process of cutting fabric and sewing can begin to assemble the clothing. Ladies garment technician schedule a fitting for customers to try on the clothing and take notes on alterations required.
Some ladies’ garment technician offers client alterations on existing garments as well. A ladies’ garment technician may specialize in a type of clothing, such as wedding dresses, or work with a designer to create clothing from designs. Ladies garment technicians must have good hand-eye coordination, expertise and strong attention to detail.
A good ladies’ garment technician would also require good verbal communication skills to work with customers during the dressmaking process. Ladies garment technician needs strong customer service skills to provide customers with quality service. Those who own their own business must have leadership, business and management skills.
On top of this, additional technical expertise is required for ladies’ garment technicians as they need to produce and develop full garment patterns in digital form. These specialised skills will require the ladies’ garment technician to at least possess basic computer literacy in order to operate the applications in a much more efficient manner.
