Born, bought up and educated in numerous cities across India, I now call Kuala Lumpur home. I completed my post-graduate diploma in fashion design from the premier fashion institute in India, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi. Furthermore, I have worked in the fashion industry for 10 years, prior to relocating to Kuala Lumpur in 2009.

In 2011, I founded Kalpana Singh Design Studio Sdn Bhd. and established D Sew Club, the learning arm of my Design Studio. My objective was to introduce newbies and intermediate sewing enthusiasts to the “proper” way of constructing garments. I believe that sewing itself is a simple process of joining two pieces of cloth. However, making a dress is an art of garment construction.

At D Sew Club, the proper technique, method, and process of garment construction are introduced and taught to students. And for the past 11 years, I have taught students pattern drafting, pattern cutting. Furthermore, sewing to create unique and customised designs. All of it, under my close supervision and guidance. Being a professionally trained pattern drafter. I love decoding complicated designs on paper and finds a thrill in creating intricate patterns.

In 2019, the studio was recognised and registered, to offer and administer National Dual Training System (NDTS) for Dressmaking technology. Also known as a INDUKSI SISTEM LATIHAN DUAL NASIONAL (SLDN).

In January 2022, I was recognised and registered as a professional Dress Making trainer by the Human Resource Department of Malaysia. In addition, as a part of my Design Studio, I have been actively creating bespoke garments for numerous clients. I have also showcased my design collection at Malaysia Fashion Week A/W 2017/18 and A/W 2018/19 where my work was highly acclaimed.
